Wisdom Teeth Being removed in 4 days!!!

Hey readers!
So I am having my wisdom teeth removed on friday and I am getting more and more nervous. I have all four of my wisdom teeth already so they just need to pull them out in preparation for my double jaw surgery.

I am not so worried about the actual teeth being pulled out or having my gums stitched since i will be very numb and very asleep. the recover doesn't bother me much either because I have already had 4 premolars removed. The thing that really bothers me is the IV. I haven't had one in a really long time and I am already such a chicken when it comes to needles. I am going to call the surgeons office tomorrow and see if I can go to my doctor to get a sedative to take prior to going in. When I had my premolars removed I took a sedative 1 hour before which is probably the reason why I let them put lots of needles in my gums and just enjoyed the whole process. I swear, I remember the whole thing and I enjoyed it, I was laughing the whole time.

I go in at 8am on Friday and I will not be able to eat or drink after midnight the night before. I'm not too concerned with that since I am usually not up at 8am and I usually don't eat that late.

I'm trying to stay calm. I must say I am insane for finding the IV to be the scariest part but that is truly how I feel. My veins are all very visible which probably helps.

UPDATES REGARDING MY TEETH
I can almost stick my whole tongue out when I have my teeth completely closed.
My lovely gap is getting larger (i still don't know why I have a gap)
I still have pain in my lower teeth and I can see them leaning more forward.
I am finding it harder not to drool when I am concentrating as my mouth doesn't really close at all anymore. (yes this is so sad)

Also, I have French again on Wednesday night and I am praying that I don't get embarrassed yet again for not being able to pronounce anything due to my lovely bite.

Thats all for now, I will update after my wisdom teeth are pulled.

  1. Terra, I think it would help you if you mentioned to some degree the issues you are having with your jaw/teeth/speech to your professor, so they are a bit less harsh in calling you out in front of everybody. I think it would make you feel more relaxed and you'd probably be able to concentrate better in class since you wouldn't be as worried!

  2. Ehhh!! I totally know what you mean about IVs!! I have a huge problem with them and HATE whenever I have to get one. It's nice to know there is someone else out there who dislikes IVs as much as me-haha. When I got my wisdom teeth pulled, I actually opted to stay awake just so I wouldn't have to get an IV in my arm! I had a 3 mg xanax the night before/1 hr before surgery, and laughing gas during the procedure, and didn't feel a thing. I don't see why you couldn't get the sedative to take before your surgery, and I think it would definitely help with calming your nerves. Good luck with your procedure on Friday- hope all goes well!

  3. Hi, I have the same drooling problem as you! I'm revising for my exams at the moment and I'll be reading and suddenly dribble will come out of my mouth! Lovely! I don't have an open bite but my overbite makes it hard for me to close my lips together.

When I had my wisdom teeth out I rememeber in the leaflet they gave me it said about having a sedative before. I didn't want it anyway cos I'm ok with needles, but I remember when it actually came to surgery the only kind of consultation I got about my anaesthetic was a nurse saying 'General yeah?' and that was it!

  4. @ Dani: You're right, I'm going to talk to her before my next class.

@Nikki: I called the surgeon today and spoke to his nurse. She told me that unfortunately I can't take a sedative beforehand because it may cause issues with the one they give me through IV. Good news is they are going to give me nitrous oxide for 5 minutes before they do the IV. According to the nurse I will be so stoned that I won't feel it. I'm really hoping she's telling the truth.

@ Sarah: Oh good I'm not the only person who has uncontrollable drooling lol. It's starting to happen more and more and I keep hoping that it doesn't happen while I am in class. lol
